Since Matt Lauer replaced Bryant Gumbel as the face of ‘Today’ in 1997, his time on the morning show has been filled with highs and lows. He got high marks for his over-the-top Halloween costumes each year, but made headlines for incidents like his 2005 combative exchange with Tom Cruise about prescription medications. There was an awkward forehead kiss as Ann Curry made her tearful goodbye in 2012. Lauer was widely blamed for Curry's abrupt departure.
