Ridley Scott To Direct New 'Blade Runner' Film

Ridley Scott, who directed the iconic 1982 sci-fi film, will be returning to the world of 'Blade Runner'.

"It would be a gross understatement to say that we are elated Ridley Scott will shepherd this iconic story into a new, exciting direction," say Alcon co-founders Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove, who purchased the rights and will produce the film.

"We are huge fans of Ridley's and of the original 'Blade Runner'. This is once in a lifetime project for us."

"We very fortunate that Ridley Scott has decided to come back to one of his seminal movies. And with Ridley, I can tell you it will be fresh and original."

While the new movie is being described as a follow-up to the first, producers have not yet revealed whether it will function as a prequel or a sequel to the original.

However one thing that is clear is that Harrison Ford will not be back.

"In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott," says Kosove. "But if you're asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no."

"This is a total reinvention, and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting."

The development of the project is still in the early stages and it will be at least a couple of years before it begins filming but you can bet it will be in 3-D.

Ridley Scott recently said that he had fallen in love with the technology after 'Prometheus'.

"3D has been a wonderful exercise but I was brought up as a camera operator so its really about lensing and all that kind of stuff," he explained. "So with the help I've had from a wonderful cameraman and his technical team its been, for me, a pretty straight forward ride."

"That said I'll never work without 3D again, even for small dialogue scenes. I love the whole process. 3D opens up the universe of even a small dialogue scene so I've been very impressed with that."
