Michael Strahan's GMA Deal Doubles Current Salary To Over $20 Million

Michael Strahan's big move to abruptly leave 'Live' for 'Good Morning America' will double his salary.

A source associated at the ABC morning show tells People magazine that Strahan's deal will be in excess of $20 million.

That would nearly double his current salary, which is estimated to be between $10-12 million.

It's a high risk move for ABC that has left Kelly Ripa (photosKelly Ripa photos) fuming at both Strahan and GMA. However, the source says the network wants to go all-in on GMA.

"They moved Michael because they are trying to close the gap in ratings with the Today show with a younger demographic," says the insider.

"We're talking hundreds of millions of dollars. This was bigger than just Michael wanting to do more, because of the money involved. This would have been a company decision."

On Thursday, Strahan continued publicly praising Ripa and said they were on "the same team, same family, same network."

Kelly Ripa hasn't appeared on the show since the news. She rapidly tracked additional days to her upcoming vacation to sit out the rest of the week.
