Man Hacks CEO Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook Page To Expose Security Flaw

Palestinian security researcher Khalil Shreateh hacked into CEO Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook page to highlight a security flaw after he says his reports to the social networking went ignored.

"First, sorry for breaking your privacy and post to your wall," he wrote on Zuckerberg's wall with a video of how he did it. "I had no other choice to make after all the reports I sent to the Facebook team."

The security flaw allowed anyone to post on a user's Timeline.

Shreateh said when he first reported the hole to Facebook's security team, which is supposed to provide a monetary reward for finding security vulnerabilities, he was told "this is not a bug." So he decided to get the CEO's attention. It worked.

Facebook has now patched the flaw and says the original report was not ignored but that they didn't have enough information.

"We should have asked for additional instructions after his initial report," says engineer Matt Jones. "Unfortunately, all he submitted was a link to the post he'd already made. Had he included the video initially, we would have caught this much more quickly."

Although Shreateh will not receive a monetary reward because Facebook says he violated the Terms of Service by using the exploit on another account without permission.
