Larry Nassar Receives 40 To 175 Year 'Death Warrant' For Sexual Abuse
"I've just signed your death warrant," Judge Rosemarie Aquilina told the disgraced doctor in Ingham County Circuit Court in Lansing, Michigan. The judge opened her courtroom to all the victims who wanted to directly address Nassar and ordered him to listen despite his complaints. More than 150 women, including Olympian McKayla Maroney, gave powerful public testimony on how he sexually abused them. "Larry is the most dangerous type of abuser," said gymnast Rachael Denhollander. "One who is capable of manipulating his victims through coldly calculated grooming methodologies, presenting the most wholesome and caring external persona as a deliberate means to ensure a steady stream of young children to assault." Nassar is already serving a separate 60-year sentence for child pornography. Meanwhile, Lou Anna Simon, the head of Michigan State University, resigned following Nassar's sentencing. "To the survivors, I can never say enough that I am so sorry that a trusted, renowned physician was really such an evil, evil person who inflicted such harm under the guise of medical treatment," she said in a statement. Simon added the accounts were "tragic, heartbreaking, and personally gut-wrenching." Former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University doctor Larry Nassar has been sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison for sexually abusing young girls under the pretenses of medical treatment.
