Jon Stewart Makes Fun Of Fired CNN Host Rick Sanchez

Jon Stewart was more than happy to strike back Monday night at Rick Sanchez, the former CNN host who was fired after calling him a bigot and insinuating that CNN was "run by Jews."

Stewart told his Comedy Central audience that he was angry upon hearing the Rick Sanchez interview, after taping last Thursday's edition.

He was angry, he said, because 'The Daily Show', which doesn't tape on Fridays, couldn't mock Sanchez's outbursts until Monday -- "and there's no way this cat survives the weekend at CNN."

"I think Jon Stewart's a bigot," Stewart replayed Sanchez's words.

"Omigod!" Stewart mocked from his anchor desk. "Rick Sanchez knows my name! If you went on radio and said the Jews control the media, you may want to hold on to your money."

He then replayed another excerpt from the radio interview where Sanchez sneered, "I'm so glad that Stewart grew up in a suburban middle-class New Jersey home with everything that you could ever imagine."

Stewart joked Sanchez "really nailed what it was like growing up in central Jersey in the early '70s, the fortunate son of a single mother in the education field."

The comedian went on to play cleverly edited clips of Michael Scott from 'The Office' interspersed with similar real-life clips of Sanchez at CNN.

"Carell is leaving 'The Office', NBC is looking to replace him," glowed Stewart. "Sanchez is available!"

Sanchez, who was born in Cuba, had worked at CNN since 2004. He was host of the two-hour 'Rick's List' on CNN's afternoon lineup and had been a frequent target of the show. But Stewart added that maybe Sanchez shouldn't have been fired for the remarks.

"Here's the deal," Stewart explained. "If CNN got rid of Rick Sanchez 'cause they didn't like his show, fine. We weren't that crazy about it either."

"But if they fired him for making some intemperate statement and some banal Jew-baiting," he continued, "I gotta tell you, I'm not even sure Sanchez believed what he was saying. 'Cause I know, when Rick Sanchez has time to think things through, and doesn't necessarily think he's about to get fired anyway, he has a slightly different take on the topic."

"Perhaps the silver lining of this situation is, it's a chance for all of us to get in touch with not our dirtier, but our better, Sanchezes. Words to live by."
