Jay Leno Says He Doesn't Really Hate David Letterman On 'Plead The Fifth'

It appears Jay Leno wants to clear the air before he leaves 'The Tonight Show'.

Playing a game of 'Plead The Fifth' with Andy Cohen, Leno said the "biggest misconception is probably that Letterman and I don't like each other."

"We actually do," he said. "He still makes me laugh as much as anybody. He and Seinfeld. Brilliant wordsmith, very funny guy. There's this sort of perception with the tabloids but we don't."

"But do you speak?," asked Cohen.

"Yeah, I spoke to him recently. Maybe a month ago. We talked about things and TV, what not and what was going on here. And he was very nice."

Leno was also asked "if there was one thing you could say to Johnny Carson, what would you say?"

"You know, I would say 'Thank you.' He gave me my break. He was very nice to me and it's something I neglected to say that very first show. It was live and just one of those things. But actually we communicated quite a bit a number of years later."

"He was very kind to me and would always send notes. So I would say thank you."

As for the "worst piece of advice or note" he's received from an NBC executive, Leno quipped: "I don't think I've met any NBC executives."
