Jay Leno Cancels Appearance At Las Vegas Gun Trade Show After Outcry

Jay Leno has cancelled a planned appearance at a gun trade show on the Las Vegas Strip after a group representing victims of gun violence urged him not to attend.

Leno cancelled the gig when he told by the group that the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT) was hosted by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a lobby group for gun owners and manufacturers.

Newtown Action Alliance leader Po Murray, who got a call from Leno himself, says: "To think a celebrity of that stature would participate in raising funds for the gun lobby was extremely disheartening for us."

Leno apparently "thought it was a sporting group. He understands that it caused concern and fully understands the sensitivities."

SHOT says they are disappointed with Leno's decision and blamed it on "false statements about our industry and its commitment to genuine firearms safety."
