'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' Play Gets Rave Reviews: 'Forget The Films'

'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' is receiving rave reviews after its first stage preview in London this week.

The story is set 19 years after the end of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'. It focuses on Harry Potter as a father of three and an "overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic."

The play, split into two parts, follows Harry and friends Ron and Hermione into adulthood with our hero coping with his youngest son Albus' struggles with his wizarding legacy.

Author JK Rowling has urged fans to "keep the secret" so the play isn't spoiled for others but that those that saw the production can't contain their excitement.

"I really liked the films but after seeing this, I would say, forget the films," one fan tells Reuters. "This is fantastic. It's got everything."

"It was utterly remarkable, just incredible," adds another. "It's a whole different version of everything that everyone loves about the books. The visual effects they've got is like nothing I've ever seen."

"All I will say is that was potentially the best thing I have ever seen," says a third.

You get the idea. Britain's Daily Telegraph wrote: "The audience came wanting magic and they got it in spades. Has Rowling done it again? The audience was in no doubt."

Rowling said the reaction to the first preview was "wonderful."

Meanwhile, after an owl failed to return to its handler during a scene, the play has decided to remove real owls from its production.

'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' officially opens on July 30 with a novel of the script set for release the following day.
