Halle Berry’s Anti-Semitic Slip Cut From 'Tonight Show' (Video)
Berry was on the show to promote her movie 'Things We Lost in the Fire', and she was showing Leno photos of herself that she distorted on her computer for some fun. But when she showed the first photo of her with a big, distorted nose, she said "that looks like my Jewish cousin." When no one in the audience laughed, Leno quickly added "I'm glad you said that and not me." Berry, then releasing her mistake, said "Oh my God. Did I just..." Leno said "No, no, no.." not wanting to embarrass her. NBC edited out the word 'Jewish' before the show aired, on Berry's request, and added a laugh track to the segment. The censored version that aired is below. If you watch the clip, you can see Berry say 'Jewish' but the audio has been removed for the part, although you can hear a bit of the "ish". The photo show and tell begins about a minute into the video. Halle Berry (photos
) is apologizing after she made an apparent anti-Semitic joke while taping 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'.
She explains: "What happened was I was backstage before the show and I have three girls who are Jewish who work for me. We were going through pictures to see which ones looked silly, and one of my Jewish friends said (for the big-nose picture), 'That could be your Jewish cousin!' And I guess it was fresh in my mind, and it just came out of my mouth. But I didn't mean to offend anybody. I didn't. I didn't mean any harm."
"It was just supposed to be a silly segment. I am so sorry, and I apologize."
