Erotic 3D Film That Broke Records Gets North American Release

'Sex and Zen 3D: Extreme Ecstasy', the erotic film which broke Hong Kong's opening day record previously set by Avatar, may soon be coming to North America.

China Lion Film Distribution has bought the rights for what producers describe as "the world's first 3D erotic film".

The film, starring Japanese porn stars, depicts the sexual exploits of a young Ming Dynasty scholar named Wei Yangsheng.

Producer Stephen Shiu Yeuk-Yuen describes the experience of watching the film in 3-D "like being a voyeur near someone's bed."

According to China Lion, the erotic film took in a per-screen average of $67,000 in Australia, more than six times the average of 'Scream 4'. And in New Zealand, the film even matched the opening week average of 'Pirates of Caribbean: On Stranger Tides'.

"We're looking at as wide as possible a release for this groundbreaking film in North America and are currently working with our theatrical partners AMC for the US and Toronto, Cineplex for Vancouver and Consolidated in Hawaii," says the distributor's CEO, Milt Barlow.
