Dwayne 'Rock' Johnson Reveals Depression Battle: 'I Was Crying Constantly'

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson opens up to THR about battling depression and overcoming the "absolute worst time" of his life.

"We were living in an efficiency that cost $120 a week," he recalls. "We come home, and there's a padlock on the door and an eviction notice. My mom starts bawling."

"She just started crying and breaking down. 'Where are we going to live? What are we going to do?'"

"That was the tipping point," he explains. "It was about, 'What can I control with these two hands?' The only thing I could do was train and build my body. The successful men I knew were men who built their bodies."

Johnson became an NFL hopeful who attended the University of Miami on a full football scholarship. But that dream ended with several injuries.

"I didn't know what it was. I didn't know why I didn't want to do anything. I had never experienced anything like that."

After a failed attempt at the Canadian Football League, Johnson also split from his girlfriend.

"The dreams I had, they're dashed. There is no more football. My relationship was crushed. That was my absolute worst time. I looked in my pocket, and I had seven bucks. Wow. Seven bucks to my name."

"Then I didn't want to do a thing," he says. "I didn't want to go anywhere. I was crying constantly. Eventually you reach a point where you are all cried out."

But Johnson found stardom in the wrestling ring and greater success in acting with as the Scorpion King in 'The Mummy Returns' and 'The Scorpion King'.

Not satisfied with the standard he had to conform to, Johnson changed his agents and publicists after 2010's 'Tooth Fairy'.

Since then, he's soared even further. The actor's films in 2013 made a whopping $1.3 billion -- the highest of any other actor.

Dwayne 'Rock' Johnson stars in 'Hercules', set for release on July 25.
