Donald Trump Admitted To Posing As Own Spokesperson 'John Miller' In 1991

Despite recent denials to ever posing as his own spokesperson under an assumed name, Donald Trump admitted to doing just that two decades ago.

In a 'Today' show appearance on Friday, Trump claimed it was the first he had ever heard of it, it definitely wasn't him on a recording the show played and "I have many, many people that are trying to imitate my voice."

However, People magazine has unearthed its interview from 1991 in which Trump admitted to making calls as John Miller.

Reporter Sue Carswell suspected it was Trump himself after the conversation with "Miller" and played the tape for Trump's wife Marla Maples. Maples identified the voice as Trump and told the businessman he should fess up to it.

"What I did became a good time at Marla's expense, and I'm very sorry," he told the magazine at the time.

The same reporter says she's puzzled by Trump's recent denials.

"I knew right away. I knew as soon as I got off the phone it was Donald," says Carswell. "He said that he was sorry that he made the call, that was a joke that went awry. It shows he's a liar right now. And that distresses me."

She recalls that during their conversation, Miller went told her that "whoever Trump ends up settling down with will be a lucky woman indeed."

"The comments seemed even stranger because Miller's voice sounded exactly like Donald Trump's. I thought, 'How convenient' and tried asking him more personal questions, like where he worked last. He responded vaguely, telling me, 'I've been at a couple places.'"

"When I finally told Miller that he sounded just like his client, he changed the subject. And when I later played the tape for Maples, who had gone into hiding at Kathie Lee Gifford's house, she also recognized the voice as Trump's and broke down in tears."

"About two weeks later, Trump called me back and apologized. Maples, who had since reconciled with Trump, made him apologize for disrespecting the magazine and for posing as his own spokesperson. Trump actually invited me and a friend to join him and Maples for a night out on the town."

Stephen Colbert joked about the latest developments on the 'Late Show':
