CW Developing 'Arrow' Spin-Off Featuring The Flash With Backdoor Pilot
The character will be introduced in season two and appear in two episodes of the series that revolves around the Green Arrow before a backdoor pilot in episode 20 of the season. "We plan to introduce a recurring character and an origin story of Dr. Barry Allen, who you now know is The Flash," CW President Mark Pedowitz revealed at the Television Critics Association panel. "We're planning an origin story, we'll see how it goes and hopefully it goes well. We do want to expand on the DC universe. We've got rich characters that we can use and we thought this was a very organic way to get there." 'Arrow' executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg will produce the series with director David Nutter. The character will be first introduced in the eighth episode of the season in Queen's home of Starling City before the pilot that is set in Flash's world. "When we first meet Barry Allen, he's just a forensic scientist," said Kreisberg. "Part of the fun for the audience is to see how we view our Arrow take on the Flash legacy. Some of it will feel very familiar to DC Comics, some of it hopefully will feel different, fresh and exciting. The same way we approached Arrow is the same way we're approaching Barry." "The fact he has superpowers, there's something more relatable about Barry among the Big Seven of the Justice League," he added. "He got his powers by accident; he's not a god, he's not an alien … his reactions to that feel very human and grounded." "Oliver Queen is a very dark and tortured soul, and Barry is not. He's a great character who is going to affect all of our characters' lives." "It will be fun to see these two characters together because they have two different worlds." The CW is developing a series around The Flash that will spin-off from the world of its other superhero series 'Arrow'.
