Christina Applegate Battling Breast Cancer

Christina Applegate is fighting breast cancer, but fortunately the disease was caught early and she expected to make a full recovery, according to a statement released by her spokeswoman.

"Benefitting from early detection through a doctor-ordered MRI, the cancer is not life threatening," her publicist, Ame Van Iden, said. "Christina is following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery."

Christina's mother also battled both breast and cervical cancer, and she has been an advocate for breast cancer research ever since. She will keep her promise to appear on Sept. 5 with Jennifer Aniston (photosJennifer Aniston photos), Scarlett Johansson (photosScarlett Johansson photos), Charlize Theron (photosCharlize Theron photos) and Meryl Streep at the 'Stand Up to Cancer' telethon, which will be broadcast on ABC, NBC and CBS.

The 36-year-old has been nominated for both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role on 'Samantha Who?'. She previously won an Emmy for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series for her role as Jennifer Aniston's younger sister in 'Friends'.

All indications are that Christina will maintain her regular shooting schedule on 'Samantha Who?' while undergoing treatment.
