Cher Defends Chaz Bono After Complaints To 'Dancing' Backlash

Cher is coming to the defense of her son Chaz Bono after discovering he is taking heat for being 'Dancing with the Stars' first transgender contestant.

"Lovelies! Chaz is being viciously attacked about being on DWTS!," Cher writes on Twitter. "This is still America right? It took guts to do it."

"I support him no matter what he chooses to do! God! will there always be haters! It took courage to do DWTS! Thank God Chaz has an unlimited supply."

"Can u guys give him your support?," she asked. "By the way, mothers don't stop getting angry with stupid bigots who f--k with their children!"

'Dancing' fans have posted both angry and supportive comments about the casting choice.

One called it "disgusting" and said "ABC should be ashamed for harassing mainstream Americans and Christains."

While someone on the opposite side of the spectrum said "I never and mean never watch DWTS but will this season to support and vote for Chaz."

Bono says he didn't tell Cher he was doing the show until the day before the contestants were officially announced.

"Thanks for all your support mom," he writes in response. "The haters are just motivating me to work harder and stay on DWTS as long as I possibly can."
