Yale University Gives Paul McCartney Honorary Doctor Degree

Paul McCartney can now an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Yale University to the numerous awards, accolades and the knighthood he has already received.

The university played 'Hey Jude' as McCartney accepted the degree at the university's graduation ceremony, crediting him for a fresh take on rock, roll, rhythm and blues.

McCartney wasn't the only Brit at the ceremony, UK's former Prime Minister Tony Blair was also in town for Yale's 307th commencement. Blair, who is set to teach a course at the university in the fall, was present for the graduation of his eldest son, who completed a two-year master's program in international relations.

"Here, there and everywhere, you have pushed the boundaries of the familiar to create new classics," said Yale President Richard Levinhe, making use a line from a Beatles song. "We admire your musical genius and your generous support of worthy causes."
