Will Forte Will Not Return To 'Saturday Night Live'

Longtime 'Saturday Night Live' cast member Will Forte will not return for the show's upcoming season.

Forte, who recently took his popular SNL character, MacGruber, to the big screen, joined the show in 2002.

"After eight great seasons, Will has made the decision to move on from SNL to pursue new opportunities," Forte's publicist says in a statement.

"He is eternally grateful to Lorne Michaels and all of the incredible people he worked with over the years."

During his time on the show, Forte portrayed a number of offbeat characters, including political candidate Tim Calhoun, ESPN commentator Greg Stink, and The Falconer.

Although 'MacGruber' performed poorly at the box office, it gave Forte a taste for the big screen alongwith his current guest roles on '30 Rock' and 'The Cleveland Show'.
