Weekend Preview: Will 'Superbad' Take The Box Office?

As the summer movie season comes to a close, will 'Superbad' be the summer's last big hit?

Along with Sony Pictures teen-sex comedy 'Superbad', the other new openings this weekend are a remake of 'The Invasion' and the Roman-Empire movie 'The Last Legion'.

Media outlets are predicting 'Superbad', which stars relative unknowns Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, will have an opening in the mid-$20 million range.

Last week's topper, 'Rush Hour 3', debuted with $49 million, but like most second weekend's, it should see a drop of at least 50% to $24.5 million. Which puts it in the same ball park. So will 'Superbad' come out as the weekend's top movie or will 'Rush Hour 3' keep its spot?

We're going to go bold here and predict 'Superbad' will take over the top spot with a surprising debut in mid to high $30-million range, maybe even reaching the $40-million mark.
