Warners Bros. And Fox Finally Reach Deal Over 'Watchmen'

'Watchmen' fans can breathe a sigh of relief. The movie will released in theaters as planned after Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox reached a deal to resolve their bitter dispute over the film's rights.

The movie's release had been in doubt for the last month as judge Gary Feess ruled that Fox had a copyright stake in the film and Warner Bros. would not be allowed to release the movie unless a deal was reached.

Fox maintained that WB completed the film knowing that it didn't have rights to the project, while WB countered that Fox lost its rights after it didn't move ahead with the movie.

However, in a statement by the studios, both acknowledged the others' position and announced the March 6 release date would not change: "Warner Bros acknowledges that Fox acted in good faith in bringing its claims, which were asserted prior to the start of principal photography. Fox acknowledges that Warner Bros. acted in good faith in defending against those claims Warner Bros. and Fox, like all Watchmen fans, look forward with great anticipation to this film's March 6 release in theatres."

The exact terms of the agreement were not disclosed and will remain confidential, however, inside sources are reporting that Fox will receive up to 8% gross participation and a part of everything going forward, which includes a sequel or spinoff.

Not only is this great news for 'Watchmen' fans but the studios considering the $150 million price tag on the certain to be blockbuster project.
