'Top Gear' Host Chris Evans Quits As Ratings Continue To Plummet

'Top Gear' host Chris Evans announced Monday that he's quitting the BBC's flagship car show after just one season.

This after ratings for the revamped series, hosted by Evans and former 'Friends' star Matt LeBlanc, continued to plummet.

"Stepping down from Top Gear. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that's not enough," Evans, who also hosts a popular BBC radio breakfast show, wrote on social media. "The team are beyond brilliant, I wish them all the best."

After debuting to 4.4 curious million viewers, the show was seen by less than 2 million viewers in its season finale on Sunday.

Ratings continued to nosedive throughout the season despite appearances by several celebrities. It averaged 5.8 million viewers when the trio of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May hosted it.

They will be returning to the car circuit this fall on Amazon's 'The Grand Tour'.
