'The Revenant' and 'The Martian' Big Winners At 2016 Golden Globes

It was a good night for 'The Revenant' and 'The Martian' at the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night.

Host Ricky Gervais made his mark with a fantastic monologue before the awards were handed out beginning with a surprise win for Kate Winslet (photosKate Winslet photos) as Best Supporting Actress in Aaron Sorkin's 'Steve Jobs'.

Sylvester Stallone took Best Supporting Actor on the male side for the Rocky sequel-reboot 'Creed'.

"I want to thank my imaginary friend Rocky Balboa for being the best friend I ever had," said Stallone.

Matt Damon won Best Actor in a Comedy for his performance in Ridley Scott's 'The Martian', despite the film being criticized for competing in the comedy category.

"Pain is temporary," said Inarritu, referring to the film's arduous shoot in the Canadian Rockies. "A film is forever.

'The Revenant' took the coveted Best Picture in the drama category while 'Mr. Robot' was the Best Series, television drama.

Alenjaro Innaritu was also hailed as Best Director along with Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio for 'The Revenant'.

"Pain is temporary," said Inarritu, referring to the film's shoot in the Canadian Rockies. "A film is forever."

DiCaprio, who appears headed for his first Oscar, dedicated his award to "First Nations people represented in this film and all the indigenous peoples around the world. It is time that we recognize your history and we protect your indigenous lands from corporate interests and people out there to exploit them."
