Sylvester Stallone Explains Why He Didn't Write 'Creed'

Sylvester Stallone reprises his role as Rocky Balboa in 'Creed' but the actor says he opted not to write this installment.

Until now, Stallone had a hand in writing all the films that spawned from the Rocky franchise.

"Forty years has passed and what worked in my generation doesn't exactly work in this generation," Stallone told Ellen DeGeneres. "Everything has just changed."

'Creed' centers on Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed, the boxer son of rival then friend Apollo Creed.

"Apollo Creed had an illegitimate son. This perfect guy didn't always walk the walk. And now this kid is born, Michael B. Jordan, and he just feels alienated," Stallone says.

"There's something; there's a hole in his heart and he seeks out the one person, who knew his father best."

"I've sort of checked out," he says of where his character is in the film. "Everyone in my life has moved on and I'm just waiting. I'm biding time."

"I'm not afraid to move on but I just don't want to have any more relationships."

"He comes in and we start to develop this bond and I realize he's the one that's keeping me alive and I'm trying to show him that life is worth living."

'Creed' opens on Wednesday, November 25, the day before Thanksgiving.
