Steven Spielberg To Produce Live-Action 'Halo' TV Series

Steven Spielberg and Microsoft will produce a live-action TV series based on the hugely popular 'Halo' video game franchise.

The announcement was made at Microsoft's event unveiling the new Xbox One entertainment console.

"The Halo universe is an amazing opportunity to be at that intersection where technology and myth-making meet to produce something truly groundbreaking," Spielberg said in a pre-taped video at the event.

The multi-billion dollar science fiction video game franchise, created by Bungie, centers on an interstellar war between humanity and a theocratic alliance of aliens known as the Covenant.

Many of the games center on Master Chief John-117, a cybernetically enhanced human super-soldier, and his artificial intelligence companion, Cortana. As Conan O'Brien learned in the hilarious 'Clueless Gamer' earlier this year.

'Halo: The Television Series' will premiere on Xbox Live. However, it will likely later end up on other networks or be released on Bluray.
