Steve Carell Reveals Universal Almost Pulled Plug On '40-Year-Old Virgin'

In a conversation with Conan O'Brien, Steve Carell reveals that Universal Studios almost pulled the plug on 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin' because they thought he looked too much like a "serial killer."

"We had only been shooting for 5 days. And we hadn't shot any dialogue," he explains. "It was me riding my bike with a weird helmet and me walking down the street seeing suggestive posters."

"And just based on that week compiled they go 'No, no, no, no. This is not a comedy.' I was so bummed out. I thought that's it. I thought that was the big shot and it wasn't going to work out."
