'Star Trek' Actor Yelchin's Parents Sue Over Rolling Jeep That Killed Him

The parents of 'Star Trek' actor Anton Yelchin are suing the makers of Jeep Grand Cherokees over the unsafe gear selectors that led to their 27-year-old son being crushed in his own driveway.

The actor died after his vehicle rolled backwards down a driveway of his home and pinned him between a mailbox and a brick wall.

In their lawsuit, Victor and Irina Yelchin say: "Anton Yelchin was crushed and lingered alive for some time, trapped and suffocating until his death."

A recall notice for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, among 1.1 million vehicles recalled, was mailed to his Los Angeles home seven days after he was killed on June 19.

"The safety recall was way too little and way too late," they say. "They should have never used this device."

Yelchin is best known as Pavel Chekov in the rebooted 'Star Trek' movies.

"He was our only son. It is against nature when a parent buries his own child." his mother tearfully told the press: "He never cared about being a star. He loved life very much."
