'Spider-Man' Reboot Gets Release Date and Promise of 3D

When the new 'Spider-Man' movie lands in theaters in two years, the superhero will also spin his web in a new dimension.

Sony Pictures has announced that its 'Spider-Man' reboot, which will start the series anew, will be shown in 3D and begin its run in theaters on July 3, 2012.

"Spiderman is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we're thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3-D," says Jeff Blake, chairman of Sony Pictures worldwide marketing and distribution.

"Spiderman is one of the most popular characters in the world, and we know audiences are eager and excited to discover Marc's fantastic vision for Peter Parker and the franchise."

Production on the project, which has yet cast an actor for the lead role, is expected to begin later this year. An official title for the film also hasn't been finalized yet.

The studio indicated last month that the film, which promises a 'new chapter', will see Spider-Man back in high school. It will be directed by '(500) Days of Summer' filmmaker Marc Webb.
