Ryan Lochte To Be Suspended For 10 Months, Banned From World Championships

Multiple sources are indicating Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte will be suspended for 10 months and won't be allowed to participate in the 2017 world championships.

The US Olympics Committee, US Swimming and the International Olympics Committee handed down the harsh punishment following Lochte's false claim that he and teammates James Feigen, Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz were held at gunpoint in Rio.

Brazilian authorities disputed the story and released security footage that showed a much different altercation had occurred between the swimmers and a security guard after they vandalized a gas station bathroom.

Lochte apologized for his "immature behavior" but the damage to his reputation had been done.

"I'm taking full responsibility for it because I overexaggerated that story and if I never did that, we wouldn't be in this mess," he said. "Those guys would never be in Rio. None of this would have happened. It was my immature behavior."

"All I know is that I learned my lesson, I definitely did. These kind of shenanigans or whatever you want to call them will never happen again and I love this sport. I dedicated my whole entire life to it and it's not who I am. I'm not done with this sport."

"There is still more I want to accomplish. All I know is I'm going to move forward from this and learn from this and better myself in making sure this never happens again."

The 12-time Olympic medalist will have to wait until summer 2019 to compete in another world championship. He will be 35 in August of that year.

A joint announcement on the suspensions is expected on Thursday.
