Ryan Gosling Thanks Debbie Reynolds at Palm Springs International Film Festival

Ryan Gosling paid tribute to Debbie Reynolds at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Monday night.

"I wish I could have said this in person but I'd like to thank Debbie Reynolds for her wonderful career of work," Gosling said as his musical 'La La Land' received the year's Vanguard Award.

"She was an inspiration to us every day. We watched Singing in the Rain every day for inspiration, a truly unparalleled talent so thank you to her for all that inspiration."

Reynolds died of a suspected stroke last Wednesday, one day after the death of her daughter, Carrie Fisher.

In an interview he later added: "Honestly, it was a reward enough just to get to make this film. To get to make a film like this, with director Damien Chazelle at the helm, it was just an incredible experience, so to be awarded on top of that was unexpected and really appreciated."

"I am still playing the piano!," he said of what he'll remember. "Unfortunately it's still just the pieces from this film, but they're that good that I don't care. I'm not sick of them yet."
