Ron Howard On Taking Over Hans Solo: 'Gratifying To Lend My Voice'

Ron Howard has commented for the first time since taking over directing duties of the upcoming untitled Han Solo spinoff film.

This after original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired from the project by Lucaslim, months into shooting, due to creative differences.

Howard called the film "a little opportunity that came my way" at Cannes Lions.

Saying he had been a 'Star Wars' fan "forever," Howard said: "It's gratifying to lend my voice to the Star Wars universe now."

"I've been around the Star Wars universe from the beginning," he said as he explained George Lucas explained it to him while they were working on 'American Graffiti'.

He thought it sounded "crazy" but was one of the first to line up his wife for two hours.

"We left almost speechless, and I said, 'Do you want to see it again?'" he said."And we got in line and waited another 90 minutes to see it twice the same day."

Filming has been on hold since the movie was necessitated. It will resume on July 10.
