RNC Fires Staffer Who Expensed $1,946 at Topless Strip Club

A Republican National Committee staffer who went to a risque Hollywood nightclub with party donors and then expensed the tab has been fired.

RNC Chief of staff Ken McKay says in an internal memo sent to committee members that the man was fired after it was discovered that they ended up financing a nearly $2,000 trip to an erotic, bondage-themed West Hollywood club, where nearly naked women, and men, dance and simulate sex in nets hung from above.

The unnamed staffer was aware the outing was not eligible for reimbursement but apparently convinced GOP donor Erik Brown, a California businessman, to pick up the tab and seek out reimbursement.

The trip to Voyeur in West Hollywood, a bondage-themed club, reportedly followed an event for its 'Young Eagles' donors. That program is an effort to cultivate donors in their 30s and 40s.

The Voyeur visit "was not an RNC sanctioned event and was not associated in any way with any RNC official event," McKay stressed in the memo. "Subsequently, a request for reimbursement to the private individual was submitted by a RNC staff person."

"That person was aware that this activity was not eligible for reimbursement and had been previously counseled on this very subject. Accordingly, that staff person has been terminated."

Brown has agreed to pay back the funds and the committee says its "accounting and reimbursement processes are being revised" to prevent such occurrences in the future.
