Rihanna Postpones Concert, Wrigley Suspends Chris Brown Following Assault

Chris Brown and Rihanna (photosRihanna photos) were supposed to light up the Grammys on Sunday night. Instead, the normally affectionate twosome found themselves embroiled in a domestic assault drama that lead to Brown's arrested.

And as we first reported yesterday, it's now all but confirmed that the victim of the assault was none other longtime girlfriend, Rihanna.

It all began with an argument Saturday evening, which quickly escalated to a fight as the two got out of the car. When officers arrived at the scene, responding to a phone call by witnesses, they found Rihanna with visible injuries, but Brown had already fled the scene. According to sources, the singer had major contusions on both sides of her face with serious swelling and bruising after Brown reportedly struck her with his fists.

A warrant was issued for Brown's arrest on Sunday and, according to police records, the 19-year-old R&B singer was taken into custody at 6:30 PM and officially booked at 7:40 PM for making criminal threats. He was released after posting $50,000 bail for a March 5 court date.

However, even before his day in court, the allegations are already having a serious impact on Brown's career. In fact, Billboard magazine's editorial director believes if they are proven to be true, "his career is probably over."

Wrigley has stopped all ad and marketing campaigns tied to Brown, who had been their Doublemint gum spokesman. Meanwhile, he has also withdrawn from planned appearances at this weekend's upcoming NBA All-Star Game, in Phoenix.

"Wrigley is concerned by the serious allegations made against Chris Brown. We believe Mr. Brown should be afforded the same due process as any citizen," the company said in a statement. "However, we have made the decision to suspend the current advertising featuring Brown and any related marketing communications until the matter is resolved."

As for Rihanna, she's reported to be in shock following the incident and has postponed a sold-out concert scheduled for Friday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Pineapple Concerts, who was organizing the event, says the show will be rescheduled to a future date "in light of recent events involving Rihanna" due to an "unavoidable shift in schedule."
