Production Suspended After Security Guard Dies On NCIS Set

A security guard died on the Los Angeles set of the 'NCIS' Wednesday after he was struck by a passenger van whose driver lost control.

The guard, whose identity has not been released, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Sheriff's Sgt. Michael Konecny says the van had just dropped off passengers when the driver suffered an unspecified medical condition and it accelerated suddenly, hitting the guard.

"With profound sympathy we mourn the tragic passing of our co-worker and friend," reads a statement from CBS. "NCIS is a family. And, as with any family, we are deeply saddened by this unexpected loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones."

The network says production on the show has been suspended while investigators try to determine what caused the accident.

'NCIS, originally a spin-off of 'JAG', is a consistent top ten show in the Nielsen ratings that has climbed steadily since its 2003 debut.

This week's episode of the show drew its biggest audience ever with nearly 23 million viewers.
