'Our Little Genius' To Pit Smart Kids Against Each Other

The producers of 'Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?' and 'Survivor' are teaming up for 'Our Little Genius', a new Fox game show that will put child prodigies to the test against each other.

Kids between the ages of six and twelve will get a chance to test their expertise in various topics with a potential to win a cash prize up to $500,000. The show will begin filming next month and is expected to premiere in early 2010.

"In television, we often showcase kids who are incredible singers, actors or dancers, so it's high time we give the spotlight to kids with
incredible brains," says Mike Darnell, Fox's President of alternative entertainment.

"The kids on this show are ridiculously smart, and with its unique appeal to both parents and children alike, I think Our Little Genius is one of Mark Burnett's most
compelling creations yet."

"I am completely astounded by the level of knowledge I have seen from these genius kids," adds Mark Burnett. "It is truly astonishing to watch adult experts in the same field of knowledge shaking their heads in disbelief at the level of brainpower these young children have."

The kids will answer increasingly difficult questions as they work their way up. However, parents can stop the game at any time and choose to walk away with the winnings for their family.

If parents decide to pull their child from the hot seat before a particular question, he or she will still have the chance to answer the question to determine if the parents made the right decision.

Our Little Genius' will air after powerhouse 'American Idol' early in the season to garner an audience before it moves to a permanent timeslot. The network is hoping the strategy it used to debut 'Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?' will pay off once again.
