Oliver Stone's 'Snowden' Earns Five Star Review From New York Daily News

Oliver Stone's 'Snowden' has earned a five star review from the New York Daily News' Allen Salkin.

Calling it the director's best film since 'JFK', Salkin says "Stone clearly wants audiences to come away with the idea that Snowden is a hero who spoke up about egregious government civil rights violations at a time when many others who knew what was going on were too afraid to speak up."

He compliments Joseph Gordon-Levitt on his performance as NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden as he adopts a deep voice and persona that "manages to elicit both a gentle vulnerability and a firm moral backbone in the character."

Salkin says Shailene Woodley (photosShailene Woodley photos)'s casting as Snowden's girlfriend, Lindsay Mills, sets the film apart.

He calls the ups and downs of their relationship with all the drama surrounding between "believable, complex and touching."

The film also includes news clips of President Obama as a presidential candidate repeatedly speaking about the virtues of moral and transparent government.

It's no doubt pushing for Obama to issue a pardon for Snowden before he leaves office, or at least make it possible for him to return home.

However, given Obama's comments, since he actually entered the Oval office and Snowden exposed the mass surveillance, it's not likely that will happen.
