Netflix Executive Says Amazon's 'Top Gear' Deal 'Not Worth The Money'

Amazon Prime recently signed the 'Top Gear' trio to a deal estimated to be worth $250 million.

Even Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos admitted it was "very, very, very expensive" a three season deal with 12 episodes each for the as yet unnamed program.

But Netflix chief product officer Neil Hunt doesn't believe Amazon's 'Top Gear' deal is worth the money.

The service had been the frontrunner to land the team after they were fired by the BBC. However, the bidding war turned the tables.

"We have past episodes of Top Gear, so we have a pretty good gauge of what audiences like," Hunt tells Digital Spy. "Our buying decisions tend to be somewhat data-driven. We have a lot of data to get the deals we want. Clearly it wasn't worth the money to make the deal."

Once Hunt realized what he just said, he added: "There is an audience for everything and it is not up to us to judge if Amazon has paid too much or not."
