Michelle Pfeiffer: I Was In Cult That Believed People Didn't Need Food

Michelle Pfeiffer says during her early years in Hollywood she was part of a cult that believed people could live without food or water and survive only on sunlight.

The actress tells 'The Sunday Telegraph' that "kind of personal trainers" put her on a diet "nobody can adhere to."

"They worked with weights and put people on diets. Their thing was vegetarianism. But they believed that people in their highest state were breatharian."

"I wasn't living with them but I was there a lot and they were always telling me I needed to come more," she explains. "I had to pay for all the time I was there, so it was financially very draining."

Pfeiffer says she didn't realize she was in a cult until one day with her first husband, Peter Horton, who was researching Moonies, the name for followers of the Unification Church's Sun Myung Moon, for a role.

"We were talking with an ex-Moonie and he was describing the psychological manipulation and I just clicked.... I was in one."
