Michael Jackson's Sleepless Letter To Lisa Marie Presley Pulled From Auction
A letter Michael Jackson wrote to his then wife, Lisa Marie Presley, has been pulled from auction after a request from her.
Jackson had written the letter to the daughter of Elvis Presley between 1993 and 1996, during a week he was struggling to fall sleep.
"Lisa I truly need this rest. I haven't slept literally in 4 days now," writes the singer in the handwritten note. "I need to be away from phones and Business people."
"I must take care of my health first I'm crazy for you."
It's signed "love Turd", an apparent affectionate nickname.
At the top of the letter were the words "smell here" pointing with an arrow to a small box drawn next to it.
The letter had been slated for auction and expected to fetch up to $1,200. However, the company decided to withdraw it after Lisa Marie requested the "personal" letter should be excluded.
"We understand it's a personal item, and we wanted to honor the request and continue our good relationship with Ms. Presley," says owner Darren Julien.
Jackson proposed to Presley over the telephone in the fall of 1993, saying, "If I asked you to marry me, would you do it?"
Their marriage ended in 1996 with an amicable divorce settlement. A couple of years ago, Presley revealed they spent four years after the divorce "getting back together and breaking up", until she decided to stop.
