Michael Douglas Blames Oral Sex For His Throat Cancer

Michael Douglas says that his throat cancer was caused by a sexually transmitted virus he contracted by performing oral sex on women.

The actor made the unusual claim when UK's The Guardian newspaper asked whether he attributed his cancer to drinking and smoking throughout his life.

"No. Because without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV (human papillomavirus), which actually comes about from cunnilingus," he said.

"I did worry if the stress caused by my son's incarceration didn't help trigger it. But yeah, it's a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer."

Douglas even remarked he even knew the cure.

"And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it," he said.

Douglas was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2010. He underwent radiation and chemotherapy treatments and says "95 percent of the time it doesn't come back."

If you're curious, it's estimated one third of mouth and throat cancers are HPV-related. And, according to UK's Department of Health, having oral sex with four or more people in your lifetime, can raise the risk of high-risk HPVs.
