Mel Gibson's Stepmother Files For Restraining Order After 'Violent Tirades'

Even Mel Gibson's stepmother is trying to get a restraining order against him.

The 78-year-old Joye Hicks Gibson has filed for a stay-away order against the actor because she says she fears for her own safety.

The petition accuses Gibson of screaming at his stepmother and threatening her after she asked about alternative medical treatments for his 93-year-old father.

"I explained to Mel that I would like for him to consider some alternative forms of conventional treatments for Hutton," she says in the filing.

"In response, Mel began yelling and saying 'f--k this and f--k that' while leveling other extremely offensive language at me. I do recall that Mel threatened me and screamed at me on the phone."

"He became incensed and began acting like a wild man," she continues. "He was so close that I could feel his spit hitting my face."

Joye, who was married to Mel's father from December 2001 until last month, also believes that her now ex-husband was manipulated into filing for divorce.

"I fear that Mel and his sister have manipulated Hutton after I left for Houston to visit with friends and attend my grandson's graduation to file for divorce against his free will, and without his reasoned consent."

Her lawyer says Gibson's "violent tirades" have left Joye "petrified and in fear that he was going to cause her serious bodily injury."

She asks in the petition that Gibson stay 100 yards away from her and "that Mel not block or interfere with my attempts to communicate with my husband."
