Matt Lauer Extends $20 Million Per Year 'Today' Contract Through 2018

Matt Lauer has extended his 'Today' contract for two more years.

Lauer will reportedly earn a cool $20 million a year for waking up early on NBC's morning talk show.

He has been hosting the talk show since 1997 even as many of his co-hosts including Katie Couric, Meredith Vieira and Ann Curry have come and gone.

Lauer was widely criticized after it was reported that he was one of the primary forces behind Curry's departure but that appears to have passed.

He currently hosts with Savannah Guthrie, who took the seat on July 9, 2012. She is expected to take time off on maternity leave in the coming weeks.
