Ludacris Gives Away Twenty Cars To Essay Contest Winners

Rapper Ludacris made good on his promise to give away twenty used cars to people in need over the weekend.

Ludacris said he was touched by the essay entries he received for his 'Ludacares Stimulus Package', in which people detailed their struggles to keep their jobs and why they were deserving of a car.

The 31-year-old partnered with suburban Atlanta Nissan South dealership for Sunday's giveaway which included a used vehicle and free gas for 30 days. Cars included the Nissan Maxima and Saturn Ion,

"People are getting laid off, and now are looking for jobs," said Ludacris. "To be efficient, you need some transportation of your own to get there. That's why I wanted to give back to those who need it."

"This year we want to do something to help youth and families manage during these tough economic times," added the president for Ludacris' foundation. "Having a vehicle to get back and forth to work and daycare can make the difference in getting and keeping a job."

Ludacris said he was most moved by the story of a man who moved to the United States from Sudan after his mother, father and six siblings were killed six years ago.

"His story touched my heart," said the Grammy-winning artist. "He's endured so much in his life and he's still here standing. I'm very proud to have helped him."

About 4,000 contestants submitted a 300-word essay for the contest. Just as with Oprah Winfrey's signature car giveaway a few years ago, winners will be responsible for the cost of tags, registration, tax and insurance.
