Lucky Weekend For 'Friday the 13th' With $42.2 Million

'Friday the 13th' scared up the largest debut on record for a horror film, after taking in $42.2 million this weekend.

The debut easily, which was roughly $17 million more than experts predicted, beat the $39 million previous record held by 2004's 'The Grudge'. In fact, the movie had its estimated $16 million budget covered even before the close of business on Friday.

The romantic comedy 'He's Just Not That Into You placed second with $19.6 million, while 'Taken' took third place with $19.3 million. Isla Fisher's 'Confessions of a Shopaholic' took in $15.4 million, which may seem low, but that's exactly where it was forecasted to land.

Sony's 'The International' debuted in seventh spot with $10 million, and Kevin James' 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop' moved past the landmark $100 million mark by taking just $11.7 million.

Even with the economic gloom and doom, ticket sales were up more than 40% compared to the same weekend last year, in what will likely go down as Hollywood's best President's Day weekend ever.

Here's the complete rundown for the weekend box office:
