Lorde Apologizes For Saying Friend Taylor Swift Like An 'Autoimmune Disease'
"It's like having a friend with very specific allergies. There are certain places you can't go together. Certain things you can't do," Lorde candidly told The Guardian in an interview. "There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship," she explained. "It's like having a friend with an autoimmune disease." She didn't specifically direct her remarks to Taylor Swift but gave the answer when asked about the difficulty of maintaining a friendship with someone as famous as Swift. "It's an element of wanting to stick together. Because it can be so scary to do this," Lorde added. "These friendships, they're about having a hand put on your shoulder by someone who knows. They're about hearing, I've done it, too." After some fire from the Swift faithful, Lorde said on social media: "Didn't mention Taylor, but regardless, I f**ked up and that was really insensitive. I'm sorry." The two musicians are close friends and Swift threw Lorde a star-studded 20th birthday party, including Aziz Ansari, Lena Dunham, Jack Antonoff and Mae Whitman, last November.
