Legends To Sing, Davis & Costner To Speak At Whitney Houston's Funeral
Whitney Houston's godmother Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder will sing and at the late singer's funeral this Saturday in Newark, New Jersey.
Houston's record producer from the beginning of her career, Clive Davis, will speak. Kevin Costner, who starred opposite Houston in 1992's 'The Bodyguard', is expected to say a few words as well but we haven't received confirmation.
However, Houston's rep confirms that other guests at the New Hope Baptist Church will include Alicia Keys, Tyler Perry, Dionne Warwick, Kim Burrell, Rickey Minor, Chaka Khan Jesse Jackson, and Donnie McClurkin.
Gospel singer and pastor Marvin L. Winans, a longtime friend of the Houston family, will give the eulogy. Winans also officiated at Houston's 1992 marriage to R&B singer Bobby Brown.
Asked why a public service wasn't planned, Winans told CNN's Anderson Cooper that the family "want to do this with dignity" and didn't "want to have a parade."
After the service is over, Houston will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield next to her father, who passed away in 2003.
The 48-year-old was found dead in the bathtub of her suite at the Beverly Hilton on Saturday, hours before she was to attend a pre-Grammys party. The cause of her death will not be determined until toxicology tests have been completed.
