Legendary Designer Oscar de la Renta Dead At 82

World-renowned designer Oscar de la Renta has died. He was 82.

Born in the Dominican Republic, De la Renta became internationally known in the 1960s as one of the couturiers to dress Jacqueline Kennedy. Most recently, George Clooney's bride Amal Alamuddin wore a gown designed by him.

The designer had actually left the Dominican Republic to study painting in Spain at the age of 18. However, after becoming quickly interested in the world of fashion design he soon and began sketching for leading fashion houses.

According to a statement by his stepdaughter Eliza Reed Bolen, de la Renta was surrounded by family and friends.

"While our hearts are broken by the idea of life without Oscar, he is still very much with us. Oscar's hard work, his intelligence and his love of life are at the heart of our company," the statement said.

"All that we have done, and all that we will do, is informed by his values and his spirit."
