Laurence Fishburne In Talks To Replace William Petersen On 'CSI'

Laurence Fishburne is in talks to succeed William Petersen as the star of crime drama 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation'.

As we reported last month, William Petersen will be leaving the show by the tenth episode of the upcoming season and word from industry sources is that Fishburne is being heavily courted to star on the show and play the new character intended to replace Grissom.

The character is described as a man of science who has the same genetic makeup of a serial killer. He is aware of the tendency, but hasn't previously acted on any homicidal impulses.

The search for the show's new male lead has been shrouded in secrecy but other names being tossed around are John Malkovich and Kurt Russell also named as top choices, but Malkovich apparently turned down the role.

Fishburne is the show's number one choice at this point, and landing an Oscar nominee would certainly be a boost for the show. No one will be able to replace Grissom but Fishburne would definitely make the blow a lot easier to take for viewers.
