Kal Penn To Leave White House Job For Another 'Harold and Kumar'

Just nine months after leaving 'House' for the White House, Kal Penn is returning to reprise his most famous role as the marijuana-loving Kumar in the 'Harold and Kumar' films.

The 32-year-old, who has been working as a part of Barack Obama's administration since last July after campaigning for Obama, took the job to fulfil his dream of work in his administration last year.

Penn admitted he took a big pay cut after starring in 'Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle' and 'Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay'.

"There's not a lot of financial reward in these jobs. But, obviously, the opportunity to serve in a capacity like this is an incredible honor," Penn said at the time.

However, his decision didn't leave much time for 'House' writers, who had to move quickly to have his character abruptly commit suicide last year. A death which left viewers shocked and confused.

"That news struck me in the same way we hope it strikes the audience: there was a little bit of anger and some depression. You really go through those emotions, especially when somebody dies in that fashion. Ultimately, it was a really interesting choice for them," explained Penn.

But now the actor's publicist confirms that he will be leaving his post as the White House's liaison to Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities to return to White Castle to start work on the third 'Harold and Kumar' comedy.

This one will feature a Christmas theme with plans for a holiday 2011 release. It will begin filming in late June.
