Jon Cryer: 'Nobody Was Prepared' For Charlie Sheen Meltdown

In an interview with David Letterman, Jon Cryer said nobody was prepared for Charlie Sheen's sudden meltdown.

"It's as much a mystery to me as to everyone, I think," said Cryer. "My favorite moment was I got a text from someone, saying, 'Charlie Sheen just called Thomas Jefferson a pussy.' I said, 'I think things are getting out of hand.'

"We didn't see where it was going," he explained. "This has never happened before. It wasn't like, back in 1963, oh everyone remembers when Fred McMurray went bats*it and started talking about free mason ninjas and stuff. It was crazy! And Vivian Vance started urinating on the set of 'Here's Lucy.' So nobody was prepared for this."

"None of us wanted to continue with the show if we felt it was hurting him, and there was a point when everyone felt like there was no control here."

"Nobody in show business can possibly get away with making fun of their boss," Cryer quipped. "It just doesn't happen."

When Letterman reminded Cryer that Sheen had called him "a troll," the actor insisted the two were still friends.

"Yes, as friends do," he laughed about the name-calling. "I love him, he's a great friend. We want nothing but the best for him."

"I want him to get healthy, I want him to stay sober, I want him to be reunited with his family that would be the best thing."

Cryer was also optimistic about 'Two and a Half Men's future, with new star Ashton Kutcher taking over Sheen's role.

He recalled how on a recent trip on the CBS private jet, as they began boarding, Kutcher told him: "You know what I love about private jets? You can bring knives on board."

Letterman shot back, "There you go... chapter two. He's crazy, like the first guy."

"Is the first scene of the new season the reading of the will of Uncle Charlie?," Letterman inquired. "I just hope I get the house," responded Cryer.
