Jennifer Hudson's Estranged Brother-in-Law Found Guilty of Family Murders

Jennifer Hudson's estranged brother-in-law, William Balfour, has been found guilty of murdering her mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew in 2008.

The 31-year-old had been accused of killing the three in a jealous rage, believing that his estranged wife, Julia, was dating another man.

A Chicago jury delivered its verdict Friday after 18 hours of deliberation.

The prosecutors built a circumstantial case against Balfour by calling 83 witnesses over 11 days of testimony, who said he threatened to kill the entire family if Julia Hudson spurned him.

The killings occurred the morning after Julia Hudson's birthday. Prosecutors believed that was because Balfour became enraged when he stopped by and saw gifts and balloons in the house from her new boyfriend.

Balfour, who was found guilty on all counts of first-degree murder, kidnapping and burglary, now faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.

"It is our prayer that the Lord will forgive Mr. Balfour of these heinous acts and bring his heart into repentance someday," Hudson said in a statement following the verdict.
